FUNERAL FOR FORMER RESIDENT -
Lena Abrahamson Johnson
- HELD SUNDAY
Mrs. Lena Johnson, a long time resident of Stockholm township passed away Tuesday, January 23 at Denver, Colorado, where she was making her home with her son, Rev. Irving A. D. Johnson and family. Mrs. Johnson had been failing in health the past year although not serious enough to be confined to her bed.Funeral services were held from the Swedish Evangelical Free church at Denver on Thursday afternoon in charge of Rev. C. Anderson assisted by Rev. P. Berg of Greely, Colorado, a close friend of the family and Rev. Wm. Anderson of Colorado Springs, Colorado.
The remains were shipped here for burial, arriving Friday morning, accompanied by Rev. Johnson and family and Mrs. Ferne Gronau, all of Denver.
Funeral services were held here Sunday afternoon from the Swedish Evangelical Free church, conducted by Rev. H. A. Faugerstrom assisted by Rev. J. Cedergren and Rev. G. Carlson. Rev. Johnson paid a beautiful tribute to his mother in a few words following the sermon.
Beautiful singing was rendered "Oh Day of Christ" a duet by Myrtle and Ellen Nelson, "When Jesus Beckons Me Home" was sung by a men's trio composed of Ralph Clauson, Paul Cedergren and Milton Nelson and "The Unclouded Day" was sung be the Arthur mixed quartet composed of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Linman, Miss Ellen Carlson and Henry Tuneberg. The many beautiful floral offerings banked about the altar bespoke in their silence the high esteem and deep love for the departed one. The pallbearers were Elmar and Abner Lindgren, Waldon Lindgren, Henry Tuneberg, Loyal Johnson and Russell Ecklund.
Mrs. Lena Johnson, nee Abrahamson, was born in Houston, Minn. November 9, 1865 and grew to womanhood at that place. She was united in marriage to Frank L. Johnson, 21 December 1886. She lived on the farm at Kiron, Iowa about 40 years and remained there for two years after the death of her husband. Of late years she made her home with her children. The past two winters being spent with her son, Irving, at Denver.
She was the mother of five children, of whom all survive. The end came very suddenly and unexpectedly Tuesday evening, Jan 23 at 9:15 thus bringing to a close a life of unselfish service and usefulness. She had reached the age of 68 years, 2 months and 14 days.
There are now left to deeply mourn and greatly miss her wonderful presence, the two sons, Rev. Irving A. D. Johnson, Denver, and Reuben of Kiron, three daughters, Mrs. Ferne Gronau of Denver, Mrs. C. L. Lindvall and Eunice Johnson, Omaha, two brothers, Rev. J. E. Abrahamson of Minneapolis and Frank Abrahamson, Houston, Minn., and four grandchildren, besides numerous relatives in Minnesota and elsewhere, and a large number of friends who will miss her friendly words and cheerful smile.
She was a wonderful mother and friend. Her sweet life will ever linger fondly in the hearts and memories of those who knew her, and the impression of her Christian life upon her children, will ever remain with them. She was truly a beloved woman by her children and all who knew her. She was a lover of nature and flowers and during her residence on their farm here she always found time to be among her flowers which was such a delight in her life.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were, Rev. and Mrs. Irving A. D. Johnson and daughter LaVeda and son Rubel and Mrs. Fern Gronau of Denver, Colo. Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Lindevall and two daughters and Miss Eunice Johnson of Omaha. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Stone of Galva, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Anderson and family of Dunlap, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Lindgren and Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Lindgren and family of Sioux city, Mrs. Pearl Lindgren and family of Hinton, Mrs. C. E. Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Dolk and Miss Gladys Loomer of Omaha, Mrs. Victor Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Ecklund and family, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gronau all of Denison, Mrs. Ellen Stone and daughter, Leona and Mr. and Mrs. Earl Stone and family of Omaha and Leonard Johnson of Hinton Iowa.
