Lois Valera Greene Kuhlmann was born August 5, 1928, the daughter of William and Amanda Nemitz Greene. She passed away Thursday, November 8, 2012, at her home near Ute, Iowa, at the age of 84.
Lois was born on a farm in Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa. She was baptized in Christ September 2, 1928, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township, and later confirmed in her faith at St. John Lutheran Church, Charter Oak on March 29, 1942. She received her education at Hanover #4 school, St. John's Lutheran School, and graduated from Charter Oak High School with the class of 1946. After graduation, Lois taught school in Hanover Township for five years. In bruary 1952, Lois was united in marriage to Herb Kuhlmann at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak and the couple was blessed with the birth of three children - Steve, Joel, and Beth.
Lois was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and their LWML, the Quilt Committee, the 12 Plus Bible Class, and Lamplighters. She was also a 4-H Leader. Lois's hobbies included crocheting and quilting, cooking, crossword puzzles, and playing cards. She liked to listen to contemporary Christian music and was a Dodger fan forever. Lois cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Preceding Lois to heaven were her parents; parents-in-law; her husband, Herb in 2001; one brother, Bill and his wife, Joann; one brother-in-law, Jerry Kuhlmann; and a nephew, Rick Kuhlmann. Those remaining are her three children: Steve Kuhlmann and his wife, Deb; Joel Kuhlmann and his wife, Leesa; all of Ute; and Beth Bonderson her husband, Kevin of Hoskins, Nebraska; eight grandchildren; Lee, Jason, and Amy Kuhlmann; Lacey Maroney, Korey and Keely Kuhlmann;and Ben and Aaron Bonderson; two sisters: Iva Lee Kuhlmann; and Phyllis Creese and her husband, Orlen; all of Charter Oak; one brother, Ron Greene and his wife, Bettye of Lindale, Texas; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Fisher and her husband, Richard of Woodbury, Minnesota; seven god-children: Jill McCoy; Kathy Sievers; Janine Waldrop; Tim Greene; Tom Fisher; Kerry Greene; and Haylee Guerra; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 12, 2012, at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the service and graveside rites held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Musicians were the Kuhlmann Sisters singing, ""How Great Thou Art,"" ""Open My Eyes Lord,"" ""Now The Light Has Gone Away,"" and ""Face To Face."" A Sunday evening Prayer Service was held at 6 P.M. at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. Honorary Pallbearers included Lacey Moroney, Korey Kuhlmann, Keely Kuhlmann, Lee Kuhlmann, Jason Kuhlmann, Amy Kuhlmann, Ben Bonderson, and Aaron Bonderson. Serving as Pallbearers were Vernon Kohnekamp, Dennis Goetzinger, Randy Creese, Mark Kuhlmann, Kerry Greene, Mike Greene, Tim Greene, and Tom Fisher. The family invited everyone to return to the church for fellowship and lunch provided by Staleys and the Ladies Aid.
The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of arrangements.
