Max August Quandt was born December 9, 1880 in Pomern, Germany, the son of Herman and Albertina (Messick) Quandt both of whom were born in Germany.
In 1886, Mr Quandt came to America with his parents and three brothers. They located on a farm five miles from Charter Oak. He received his education in a rural school near his home. He also attended German school and was confirmed by Rev. Charles Runge, pastor of St John’s Lutheran church when he was 15 years old.
On February 17, 1907 he was united in marriage to Dorothea Blunk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blunk. The wedding took place in St. John’s Luther Church, Hanover Township with Rev Charles Runge officiating. Five children were born to this union, Mrs. Carl (Edna) Boeck, Denison, Mrs. Henry (Mildred) Braasch, Denison; Mrs Richard (Caroline) Petersen Charter Oak; and one son Herbert Quandt Denison. After their marriage they resided on a farm in Harrison Township before moving to a farm five miles west of Charter Oak. This was their home for 40 years. When they came to Denison to live, Mrs. Quandt died Aug. 15, 1954.
He is survived by his four children, Mrs. Carl Boeck, Mrs. Henry Braasch, Mrs Richard Petersen, and son Herbert Quandt. There are 19 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. One sister Mrs. Paul Schneider of Denison, tow brothers, Herman Quandt of Denison, and Charlie Quandt of Charter Oak.
Preceding him in death were his wife Dorothea, his parents, one daughter Margaret, who did at age 14, one sister, Mrs. Anna Hennings, and four brothers, William, George, Emil, and Otto.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 9, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Kenneth Haydon officiating. Mrs LaVern Venice presided at the organ and Henry Henningsen, soloist sang “Heaven is my Home” and sang “How Great Thou Art.”
Pallbearers were: Martin Schneider, James Quandt, Lavern Quandt, Glen Quandt, Melvin Quandt, and Elmer Spreng.
Burial was in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
