Theodore Krauel, father of Mrs. George Foderburg and Mrs. John Ehlers of Manilla, passed away at the home of the former on Monday night, January 27, 1930 at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 18 days.
Mr. Krauel was born in Mockow, Pommerania, Germany on October 9, 1845 and grew to manhood in the country of his birth. On April 10, 1869, he was united in marriage with Johanna Fredericka Kumtum. Six years later, in 1875, they came to the United States, settling in Clayton County, Iowa. In 1881 the family left Clayton County and came to Crawford County, locating in Nishnabotna Township in the neighborhood of Manilla, Iowa.
Some 23 years ago Mr. Krauel retired from farming and moved to Denison, where he resided up until about four years ago, when he and his wife came to Manilla to make their home with their youngest daughter, Mrs. George Foderburg. Mrs. Krauel's death occurred about three years ago.
Mr. Krauel's death is mourned by six children, two sons and four daughters. They are: Henry of Denison, William of Moline, Ill., Mrs. Earnest Segebart of Vail, Mrs. John Ehlers of Manilla, Mrs. C. Beerman of Denison, and Mrs. George Foderburg of Manilla. He is also survived by thirty-five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
Mr. Krauel was a devoted member of the Lutheran Church. Having been baptized and confirmed in the faith, he remained faithful to his church to the very last. While living in Denison he was an active member of the Lutheran congregation and upon his return to Manilla he joined the congregation here.
Deceased was a patient sufferer and bore the handicaps of old age, which were telling on him the last year and a half, with patience. He has now gone to that rest to which he had looked forward.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Foderberg home this afternoon at 2PM and from the Lutheran Church at 2:30 PM. Rev. F.C. Israel will have charge of bother services. Internment will be in the Nishnabotna Cemetery.
The pallbearers will be Henry Peterson, Wm, Schnoor, Wm. Schade, Jno. Haman, John Hollander and Ffed Steckleberg, Sr.
