Charles "Butch" Walker, 63, of Dunlap, Iowa died on Monday November 12, 2007 at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa. Butch was born on June 26, 1943, in Clinton, OK to Billy Dee and Betty Jean (Armstrong) Walker. He was raised with two younger sisters in Perryton, Texas. Butch graduated from Perryton High School in 1961 and went on to attend Texas Tech and West Texas State but before graduating he decided to join the U. S. Marine Corps. Butch served with honor during the Vietnam War in the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa and Vietnam from October of 1964 to November of 1965 and he was honorably discharged at the rank of Sergeant. After leaving the Marines he moved to Wichita Falls, Texas to be with his family and earn a business degree from Midwestern State University.

On April 1, 1967, Butch met Dianne Flatt and they were married just two weeks later on April 14th. Butch then began his 40 year newspaper career. It started at Wichita Falls Times and Record News, then to Pigeon Forge, TN, then to San Diego, CA, and finally to Dunlap, IA. Eve and Alex moved with the family out to Iowa and Russell stayed in California.

Of all the places the Walker Family has lived Dunlap has proven to be extraordinary, Butch enjoyed his involvement in the Dunlap community. He has enjoyed learning photography, covering the sporting events and everything in-between. Of Butch's legacy nothing makes him more proud than his grandchildren. Butch loved sports himself and enjoyed playing golf, baseball, football, and tennis.

Butch is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Dianne Walker, of Dunlap, IA; two sons, Charles Walker of San Diego, CA, Alex Walker of Dunlap, IA; daughter, Eve Wood of Dunlap, IA; two sisters, Nancy Bruce of Carlsbad, NM, Jeani Walker of Albuquerque, NM; five grandchildren, Mitchell and Sidney Wood, and Nicholas Walker all of Dunlap, IA; Nathaniel and Gabriel Walker of San Diego, CA; and many other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 16, 2007 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Dunlap, Ia. Celebrant Rev. Paul Strittmatter, SJ. Musicians Marilyn Grote, Jerry Baldwin. Pall Bearers Russ Walker, Nathan Hess, Alex Walker, Barney Murphy, Terry Donscheski, Jay Petersen. Military Graveside Rites Dunlap American Legion Post #224. Final Resting Place Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap, Ia.
