Ruth was born in Ricketts, Iowa, on January 11, 1927, to Herman and Olga Hopp Bielow. She was baptized on February 1, 1927, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover Township, Charter Oak, Iowa, and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Soldier Township, Charter Oak, on May 1, 1940. She graduated from the Charter Oak High School with the class of 1944. After completing her education, she worked as a telephone operator in Sioux City, Iowa.

On March 30, 1948, Ruth was united in marriage to Vernon H. Larson at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple made their home on a farm near Charter Oak, before moving into town in 1960. Ruth was employed at Farmers Savings Bank in Ricketts and then worked at the Farmers State Bank in Charter Oak for more than 30 years before retiring.

Ruth and Vernon retired in Lake View in 1990 after many years of being weekend residents there. Ruth enjoyed meeting people and making new friends on camping weekends in Lake View before moving to Dixieland Trailer Court. She took great pleasure in joining friends at trailer court potluck picnics where she shared her potato salad, popcorn and home-baked cookies. Ruth always made sure she had a supply of candy for the neighborhood children when they stopped by for a visit. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Lake View.

Ruth was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Vernon, and their daughter Pamela Larson Ford. Survivors include son V. Mark Larson and wife Dawn of Lee's Summit, Missouri; son-in-law Craig Ford and wife Georgia of Bellevue, Nebraska; grandchildren James Ford of St. Paul, Minnesota, Anne Johnson and husband Geoff of Omaha, Nebraska, and Matthew Larson and wife Jami of Kansas City, Missouri; and one brother Vernon Bielow of Charter Oak, Iowa. There are many other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
