Joyce Lynn Vetter of rural Westside, Iowa, age 50, was called home on September 27, 2007. The Lord rescued Joyce from her courageous battle with renal cell carcinoma. She fought strong and remained the one with a hopeful heart and positive attitude. Joyce had a grace and presence about her that most of us can only hope to attain.

Joyce Lynn (Marquardt) Vetter was born August 17, 1957 in Denison, Iowa, to Edgar and Benita (Johannsen) Marquardt. She was baptized in Christ September 8, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church Schleswig and later confirmed on April 4, 1971. Joyce was raised on the Marquardt family farm southeast of Schleswig until 1971 when her family moved to town. She received her education at Schleswig Community School, graduating in the class of 1975. Prior to becoming a nurses aide at Eventide Home for the Aged, she attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake.

November 26, 1977, Joyce was united in marriage to Rick Vetter at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. They made their home one-half mile south of Westside where they worked on the farm together caring for livestock and growing crops. Joyce enjoyed working with Rick most. Through the years Joyce was also employed by Hugg Ostrich Farm, Lutheran Brotherhood, Fine Things, and Pella Corp.

In 1998 Joyce started Joyce's Photo Shop as the result of her natural talent, passion and creativity for photography. She provided memorable pictures to treasure a lifetime. Joyce also enjoyed the outdoors: fishing, horseback riding, and gardening. She loved making time to decorate her home, sew, craft, and collect antiques.

Joyce was active throughout the communities. Many years were spent teaching Sunday School, Confirmation Classes, and Vacation Bible School at Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia. She was also a member of the Zion Ladies Aid and building committee. Joyce served as a leader of the Westside 4-H Club and was a Westside Township Trustee for several years.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Edgar and Benita Marquardt; her father-in-law, Harvey Vetter; her grandparents, Edward and Emma Marquardt; Carl and Hulda Johannsen; and three nephews, Adam Lingren, Collin Marquardt, and Brett Booth.
