Herbert William Neumann was born September 11, 1924, on the family farm south of Ute, Iowa, the son of William and Lena (Bramstedt) Neumann. He was baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute and later confirmed there in April of 1938. Herb attended school at Ute also. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Army.

On June 14, 1953, he was united in marriage to Wilma Klaus at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. Martin Klaus. The couple then lived and farmed on the family farm where they also raised their one son and two daughters. Herb and Wilma retired in December of 1979 and moved in to Ute.

He was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee, was a member of the finance committee and volunteered as an usher for 30 years. He was a member of the American Legion Aaby Post #442 of Ute, having held every office at his post, county and district levels. In addition, he served at the state level as Vice Commander.

Those survivors left to cherish their memories of Herb include, Wilma, his wife of 54 years; one son, Tim Neumann of Ute, Iowa and his children, Melinda and Paul; two daughters, Sara Meyer of Wenatchee, Washington and her son, Adam and Jane Coon and her husband, Joe of Waukee, Iowa and their children, Ian, Nathan, and Rachel; one brother, Harold Neumann and his wife, Shari of Underwood, Iowa; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Lincoln City, Oregon and Stella Jansen of Castana, Iowa; along with nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Walter, who died at the age of 14.

Funeral services were held September 8, 2007, 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ute, IA. Rev. Ed Brandt officiating. Message in music Lynette Thies, organist. Congregational singing "I Know That My Redeemer Lives", "Who Knows When Death May Overtake Us", "I'm But A Stranger Here", "Beautiful Savior". Pallbearers; Eldon Teut , Norman Gosch, Glenn Quandt, Norman Meadows, Warren Thies, Norman Timm. Honorary Pallbearer; Fred Schnoor. Visitation Friday, September 7, 2007 after 2:00 p.m. Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Armstrong Funeral Home, Ute, IA.
