LaVonne Bessie Brink was born March 16, 1922, the daughter of William and Anna Eliza Lovell Summerfield. She died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-five.

LaVonne was born in Moorhead, Iowa and received her education in schools near her home.

On June 29, 1940, she was united in marriage to Carl Brink in Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple made their home on a farm near Woodbine and were blessed with the birth of five children. Later, the couple moved to Arion, where they resided for the majority of their lives. Throughout her life, she was employed at Bremser's Grocery Store in Dow City, World Wide Meats; as a bookkeeper at Summerfield Implement, and as the Postmaster in the Arion Post Office, retiring in 1987. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who loved her family very much. She took very good care of her family and cherished the time she was able to spend with them. She and her husband, Carl had a wonderful life together, and enjoyed spending as much time together as possible. She was an excellent seamstress, who enjoyed making clothing for her children, and also quilting. She attended Congregational Church in Arion.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl in 1979; three brothers and four sisters.

She is survived by her children, Janice Rannells of LeRoy, Minnesota; Sharon Reising and her husband, Larry of Redfield, Iowa; Carl Brink and his wife, Linda of Honey Creek, Iowa; Myra Murphy and her husband, Michael of Cape Cod, Massachusetts; and Corinne Smith and her husband, Joe of Dow City; seventeen grandchildren; thirty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Watkins and her husband, Darrell of Woodbine, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2007 at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa. Fr. Glenn Rankin officiated the services and grave side rites held at the Dow City Cemetery in Dow City, Iowa. Organist Karen Kahl provided service music and vocalist Eldon Hardekopf sang the selection "How Great Thou Art." Those serving as pallbearers were Lee Russell Schuler, Carl Summerfield, Merrill Watkins, Kenny Rannells, Rick Rannells, Mike Siemer, Darrell Watkins Jr., Danny Rannells, Thomas D. Brink, Richard Frazier, Robert Hanson, and Jack Siemer. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them for fellowship and lunch at the Brasel Building, served by the Community Ladies. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
