Detail Obituary:

JoAnn Delorse Meyer was born near Dow City, Iowa, July 15, 1932, the daughter of Edward Otto Herman and Hilda Johanna Meta Preul Maack. She was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the Sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison September 18, 1932, and confirmed in her Christian Faith at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, June 26, 1948. From Dow City, the family moved to Kiron, Iowa, before settling on the farm south of Boyer where JoAnn was raised, receiving her education in the rural school located on their farm. Following her education she was employed in domestic work for area residents. On April 18, 1954, JoAnn was united in marriage with Lyle A. Meyer at St. John Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. Their union was blessed with five sons, Charles, Lynnel, Jerry, Stanley and Darwin. They made their home briefly with JoAnn’s parents before moving to Schleswig. In 1960 they moved to Denison where they resided until moving to Deloit for a few years, returning to Denison in 1970. While residing in Deloit JoAnn began her long career with the Denison Community Schools as an aid at the Deloit Center. After moving to Denison she continued as an aid until transferring to the custodial department from which she retired in 2000. Many will remember JoAnn, along with her husband, Lyle, as the ticket takers for all sporting events at the Denison-Schleswig Community Schools. In her spare time she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, supporting the Denison Monarchs, gardening and sewing and embroidery. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Johanna Maack. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of over 53 years, Lyle A. Meyer of Denison, Iowa, five sons, Charles Meyer and wife, Robin of Denison, Iowa, Lynnel Meyer of Fresno, California, Jerry Meyer and wife Lori of Denison, Iowa, Stanley Meyer and wife, Melanie of Ida Grove, Iowa, and Darwin Meyer and wife, Chris of Denison, Iowa, 11 Grandchildren, one brother Merlin E. Maack and wife, Ruth of Denison, Iowa, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service was provided by Eldon Hardekopf singing “Old Rugged Cross” and “How Great Thou Art” and the congregation singing “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” with Karen Kahl serving as organist. Pallbearers serving at the church included Allan Preul, Terry Preul, Allen Schurke, Greg Schurke, Don Meurer and Rich Spack. Those serving as pallbearers at the cemetery included members of her school family, Dave Wiebers, Don Lyons, Bob Scherff, Scott Schurke, Bob Eisenbraun and Dr. Steve Oatman. Interment was at Morgan Township Cemetery at Schleswig, Iowa. Following the interment the family invited everyone to return to the church and join them for fellowship and a luncheon prepared and served by Zion Ladies Aid.
