Richard L. Mahoney, 58, of Carroll, died Friday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll.
Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3 p.m. Tuesday. There will be a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

A college fund has been established for the children's education. Memorial contributions may be sent to Carroll County State Bank, 126 W. 6th St., Carroll, IA 51401 or Westside State Bank, 401 1st St., Westside, IA, 51467.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Mahoney of Carroll; children, Jeff Mahoney, Jeremy Mahoney and Regina DeMars, all of Omaha, Nebraska, Megan Knauss of West Des Moines, and Caitlin Mahoney, Alyssa Mahoney and Ryan Mahoney, all of Carroll; four grandchildren; his mother, Viola Mahoney of Council Bluffs; and sisters Phyllis Clausen of Schleswig and Lois Mahoney of Onawa.

Richard Mahoney, age 58, of Carroll, Iowa, died Friday, March 23, 2007, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral Service were held at 10 A.M., Wednesday, March 28, 2007, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. Officiating was Father Timothy Schott. Lector was Diane Forbes. Honorary Pallbearers were Leon Clausen, Ed Howell, Bob Olsen, Jim White, Jim Black, Ken Nordland, and Greg Spevak. Casket Bearers were Ron Eich, Bob Galligan, Royce Schulz, Jim Powers, Mark Clark, and Steve Martens. Burial was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll. Friends called at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3 P.M. Tuesday. There was a Christian wake service at 7 P.M. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mr. Mahoney was born on January 30, 1949, at Pisgah, Iowa, the son of Paul and Viola (Lewis) Mahoney. His family moved to Schleswig where he graduated from Schleswig High School in 1967. He then graduated from the University of South Dakota in Vermillion in 1971 with a degree in accounting and passed the C.P.A. exam in 1971. He moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, and was employed by public accounting firms. In 1981 he moved to Denison when he became associated with Olsen, Muhlbauer, Mahoney & Company of Carroll. In 1995 he established Mahoney & Associates L.L.P. with offices in Denison and Carroll and operated that business to the present day. On October 3, 1986, he was married to Maria Monahan in Lincoln, Nebraska. He was a member of the Denison Country Club, Crawford County Development Corporation, Boulder Conference Center Committee of Denison, Carroll Country Club, Carroll Rotary Club, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants and its legislative committee. Mr. Mahoney enjoyed golf, fishing, going to the lake, traveling, playing cards, snow skiing, Nascar racing, Nebraska football, and watching his kids participate in sporting events.

Survivors include his wife, Maria Mahoney of Carroll; children, Jeff Mahoney and his wife Marcy of Omaha, Nebr., Jeremy Mahoney and his wife Candace of Omaha, Nebr., Regina DeMars and her husband Adam of Omaha, Nebr., Meaghn Knauss of West Des Moines, Caitlin Mahoney of Carroll, Alyssa Mahoney of Carroll, and Ryan Mahoney of Carroll; grandchildren, Claire and Connor Mahoney and Rylan and Jace Mahoney; his mother, Viola Mahoney of Council Bluffs; sisters, Phyllis Clausen and her husband Leon of Schleswig and Lois Mahoney of Onawa; mother-in-law, Dot Monahan of Carroll; father-in-law, Vincent Monahan of Churdan; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Shelly and Royce Schulz of Glidden, Sean Monahan of Carroll, and Colin and Sonya Monahan of Perry. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Mahoney.
