Lydia Helen Eggert was born May 8, 1917, the daughter of August and Wiebke Boyens Maack. She died Friday, Dec. 22, 2006, at the Denison Care Center in Denison, Iowa at the age of 89.

Lydia was born in Charter Oak, Iowa, and was baptized in Christ on May 28, 1917 and later confirmed on March 29, 1931 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison. She received her education in Hanover Township rural school No. 5, where she graduated on August 21, 1931.

On January 10, 1937, Lydia was united in marriage to Edward Eggert at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison by Rev. Frese. The couple made their home on a farm near Denison and were blessed with the birth of one daughter. Edward passed away in 1967 and Lydia continued to make her home on the farm until moving to Denison in 1968. She went to work for Jo-Mart on weekends and did laundry at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital.

Lydia was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of their Ladies Aid. She was also a member of several card clubs and the Crawford County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Club. She loved spending time and socializing with her family and friends.

She enjoyed babysitting, cooking and baking and in her leisure time she enjoyed embroidering and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son-in-law, Jim Nemitz; two brothers, August Maack, Herman Maack; one sister, Martha Watke; three step-brothers, Louie Maack, Henry Maack and Hans Thun; three step-sisters, Edna Naab, Hilda Schoenfeld and Anna Hiller. Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Nemitz of Denison; two granddaughters, Janine Whited and her husband, Brian of Owatonna, Minnesota; Janelle Johnson and her husband, Joel of Denison; one grandson, Jim Nemitz and his wife, Emalee of Cedar Rapids; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Alan White of Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jeremy McMinemee and friend, Jillian Wessel of Denison; Kristin and Alex Whited of Owatonna, Minnesota; Jakob, Joshua and Hannah Nemitz of Cedar Rapids; two sisters-in-law, Irene Eggert, and Norma Reham, both of Denison; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 26, 2006 at Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Rev. David Sewing officiated the services and grave side rites held at Crawford Heights Memory Gardens in Denison. Organist Karen Kahl provided the organ accompaniment for the congregational hymns, "I'm But A Stranger Here," "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," and "How Great Thou Art." Those serving as pallbearers were: Charles Green, Larry Maack, Kurt Crispin, Ronald Maack, Lyle Maack, and Barry Hiller. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of the arrangements.
