Robert Carl Sporleder was born on June 21, 1927, the son of Arnold and Gretchen Faber Sporleder. He died Friday, December 1, 2006 at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa at the age of seventy-nine.

Robert was born in Carroll, Iowa and grew up on a farm north of Carroll. He was baptized in Christ and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lidderdale, Iowa. He received his education at Grant Township Country School and Carroll High School.

On October 28, 1951, Robert was united in marriage to Ardith Brown. The couple made their home on the Sporleder home farm in Carroll County for fifteen years and were blessed with the birth of three children. The Sporleders moved to a farm north of Charter Oak in 1967.

Through his life, Robert loved riding and showing his Arabian Horses, fishing and visiting with everyone he met. He also enjoyed traveling with Tire Resource Systems delivering their products throughout the eastern United States, Taiwan and Puerto Rico. Robert was actively involved in 4-H with his children as they were growing. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He was a member of the Charter Oak Community Club and Commercial Club. Robert was a member of the Arabian Horse Society of America and the International Arabian Association.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Fritz and one sister, Martha. Survivors include his wife, Ardith of Charter Oak; two daughters, Kristin Caughey and her husband, William of El Dorado, Kansas; Sandra McCartney of Issaquah, Washington; one son, Scott Sporleder and his wife, Anne of Mathison, Colorado; five grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Rudi of Oro Valley, Arizona; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. Rev. Richard Merrill officiated the services and grave side rites held at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Charter Oak. Organist Marjorie Neddermeyer provided the organ accompaniment for soloist Sara Bohnker as she sang, "Amazing Grace, How Sweet the Sound," and for the congregational hymns, "Be Still, My Soul," "Onward Christian Soldiers," and "Lift High the Cross". Those serving as pallbearers were: Patrick McCartney, Scott Sporleder, Cary Caughey, Jeremiah McCartney, Aaron Caughey, and Bill Caughey. A Prayer Service was held at 7:00 p.m., Monday at the Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak. The family invited everyone in attendance to join them in fellowship and lunch served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Charter Oak was in charge of the arrangements.
