Norma Lucille Dreeszen, 81, of Holstein, Iowa, formerly of Cushing, Iowa, passed away at Holstein Good Samaritan Center on Oct. 9, 2006.

Services were held on Thursday October, 12, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, Iowa with Pastor Curtis Benson officiating.

Burial was in the Cushing Cemetery. Visitation was Wednesday at the Barker Funeral Home in Holstein.

Norma Lucille Dreeszen, daughter of Eathen L. And Olive (Turpin) Crane, was born in Milford Township, Crawford County on October 22, 1924. She attended country school for eight years then graduated from Denison High School in the class of 1942.

She took normal training courses in high school, plus a summer of teacher's training, and was awarded a Teachers Certificate.

She taught country school for four years in Paradise Township, Crawford County.

Norma was united in marriage to Elvie Dreeszen on June 2, 1946 in Vail, Iowa.

They made their home on Rolling Acres Farm for 35 years, until they moved to Terrace Hill in 1981, both in Douglas Township of Ida County.

In 2004, Norma moved to an apartment in Holstein, but 7 months later entered Good Samaritan Center in Holstein.

Norma was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cushing, where she was very active in W.E.L.C.A. women's group. She especially enjoyed the Wednesday morning quilting sessions, circle and general meetings.

She taught Sunday school, attended adult Bible studies and helped wherever needed in all church activities.

Norma was a long time member of the Douglas Homemakers Club, and was also active in Ida County Historical Society.

She and her husband, Elvie, worked many hours preserving the Moorehead House in Ida Grove, as well as the Stagecoach Inn.

Norma was a 4-H leader for the Douglas Daises 4-H Club. She was Elvie's secretary when he served in the Iowa State Senate in 1980-81.

She was a busy homemaker, and always helped on the farm with chores and harvesting. She enjoyed family gatherings, especially if they involved a card game.

Norma found pleasure in any challenging conversation and chose reading and crafting as her hobbies. Norma also enjoyed traveling.

She is survived by her children, Roger and Mary Dreeszen of Cushing, Iowa, Lanyce and Bryant Mills of San Pedro, California, Randall and Paula Dreeszen of Iowa City, Iowa, Carolyn Dreeszen and Bill Chantry of Edina, Minnesota; grandchildren Alison Dreeszen of Urbandale, Iowa, Adam Dreeszen of Cushing, Iowa, Erica and Tim Miller of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Trina and special friend Rick Beemer of Iowa City, Iowa, Nick Dreeszen and fiancé' Ashley Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, MacKenzie Dreeszen of Iowa City, Iowa, Rachel Chantry of Edina, Minnesota; great-grandsons Calvin Beemer of Iowa City, Iowa and Ian Dreeszen of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sisters, Milly Hutchinson of Vail, Iowa, Barb and husband Wally Hiedbier of Duluth, Minnesota; a brother Donald and wife Alice Crane of Vail, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Ina Volkert of Cushing, Iowa and Velma Goettsch of Holstein, Iowa; brothers-in-law Gordon Thompson of Oregon, Emmett and wife Lois Dreeszen of Ames, Iowa, Wesley and wife Florence Dreeszen, of Holstein, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Elvie; her parents, Eathen and Olive; sisters, Elsie Shultz, Dorthy Thompson; brother Bobby Joe Crane; brothers-in-law, Ralph Schultz and Kenneth Hutchinson; grandson, Aaron John Dreeszen.
