Roy Eugene “Butch” Howson Jr., 73, of South Beloit, IL, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 26, 1942 in Beloit, WI, the son of Roy and Lucille (Goers) Howson. Roy was a 1960 graduate of Beloit Memorial High School. He was a veteran serving as a lab tech in the U.S. Army from 1960 until 1966. Roy attended Iowa State University and Indiana College of Mortuary Science, graduating in 1966.
Roy was formerly employed as a funeral director in Indianapolis, IN, a pet groomer, and most recently at Rutherford Engineering, retiring in 2006. He was a huge animal lover and played the string base in orchestra during high school. Roy was a family man, loved to take trips on the Amtrak out to the west coast to visit his brother, and was affectionately known as “Uncle Roy” to the Van Fleet family.
Survivors include his brother, Richard “Dick” (Linda) Howson of Redmond, WA; nephews, Richard (Lisa) Howson of Graham, WA, and Robert Howson of Olympia, WA; great nieces and nephews, Katie, Abby, Rachael, and Emmett Howson; most special friends Michele, Lil’ Darin, Kaytie Van Fleet all of South Beloit, IL, and Richard “Dick” (Kathy) Nystrom of Cherry Valley, IL; special neighbors, Tony and Marian Agate and their son, Tony Agate of South Beloit, IL; and numerous cousins in Iowa.
He was predeceased by his parents; aunts, Marian Johnston and Hannabelle (Manley) Cork; his beloved pig “Chops” and all his cherished animals including, his White Rat “Millie” and Raccoon, “Bandito”.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2016 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd. Beloit, WI, with military honors accorded by VFW Post #2306. A private burial will be at Prairie Union Cemetery in Low Moor, IA. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in Roy’s name to Rockford Memorial Hospital, VNA Hospice, or a charity of choice.
