George Andrew Dehner, 87, of Clinton, Iowa, passed away Friday, April 1, 2016 at The Alverno - Clinton. Funeral Services will be 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Clinton. Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 pm Monday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. George requested that his friends and family wear Cubs attire for the service and visitation. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Joe Dehner, Jeremy Dehner, Joshua Dehner, Nicholas Jensen, Matthew Henthorn, Christopher Hurlburt, Jace Dehner and Ryan McKinney. The Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Homes and Crematory is assisting the family with the arrangements.

George was born December 12, 1928 in Monticello, Iowa, the son of John D. and Margaret (Hemmer) Dehner. George was a 1946 graduate of Loras Academy, Dubuque. He entered the U.S. Marine Corp in April of 1948 and was a Korean War Veteran. George married Bernadine Lemke, May 23, 1951 at St. Irenaeus Catholic Church, Clinton..

George was employed as a letter carrier for the United States Post Office for 24 years, retiring in 1986. George was also a carpenter his entire life.

He was an active member of Prince of Peace, serving in various positions at both the school and the church. He was very active with the building of the new church.

Survivors include his wife, Bernadine “Bea” Dehner of Clinton; children, Michael (Ellen) Dehner of Anamosa, Iowa; John Dehner of Clinton; Mary (Eric) Jensen of Clinton; Elizabeth Huizenga of Clinton; Phillip Dehner of Santa Rosa, CA; Cynthia (Brian) Gifford of Clinton and Catherine (Jeffrey) Hurlburt of Vienna, VA; 34 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren with room for one more; sisters, Rita Beck and Margaret Ann Ernzen both of Dubuque.

George was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Natalie Dehner; great-granddaughter, Jesalyn Jensen, triplet great-grandsons, Jude, Henry and Max, son-in-law, Gary Dale Huizenga, one brother, four sisters and his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince of Peace Catholic School.
