Clair A. Tobey, 85, Princeton area retired farmer died at 6 p.m. Monday in Mercy Hospital Clinton after a year's illness.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday in McGinnis funeral home in DeWitt, with burial in Prairie Union cemetery, Low Moor. Friends may call after 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Mr. Tobey was born August 20, 1883 at Low Moor, the son of Charles and Marie Simpson Tobey. He married Orrie Pelham on April 10, 1906 at Low Moor. The couple farmed in the area until they moved to Scott County in the Princeton area 54 years ago. He was a member of Scott Co. Farm Bureau.
Survivors are 2 sons, Howard Tobey of Low Moor and Clyde Tobey of Princeton, 2 daughters, Mrs. Ray (Pearl) Erling of Long Grove and Mrs. Werner (Ruby) Hein of Clinton; 10 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Mrs. Andy Wright and Mrs. Ann Brown both of LeClaire; 2 brothers Vern Tobey of Clinton and Harold Tobey of Princeton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, 2 sons, one grandson and one sister.
