Lois G. Ross

SAVANNA, Ill. — Lois G. Ross, 93, of Savanna, died Tuesday at her home.

Memorial services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church, Savanna. The Rev. Michael Wey will be officiating. Inurnment will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time Friday at the church.

She was born Dec. 7, 1912, in rural Jo Daviess County, Ill., to Elmer C. and Mamie Williamson Frederick. Her family then moved to Mount Carroll, Ill. She married John C. Ross on June 20, 1937, in Savanna. He died in 1964.

She attended Mount Carroll Elementary School and later moved to Savanna where she attended Savanna High School. She earned her teaching degree in education from Francis Shimer College.

She taught school for six years in the Union Grove Rural School and 29 years with the Savanna schools. She also worked at the Savanna Township Public Library for nine years.

She was an elder of First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, and a member for more than 70 years. She also taught Sunday school, sang in the choir, was a clerk for the Presbyterian Women’s Organization and the financial secretary. She was a member of the Carroll County Teachers Association and the Illinois Education Association. She also was active in the Savanna Reading Club.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Linda (Joseph) Sumperer of Thomson, Ill.; one son, John “Jack” Ross of Savanna; and two nephews.
