Jessie Johnson

Jesse Johnson, 97, of Villa Park and formerly of Low Moor and Camanche, died Friday in California.

Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lemke Funeral Homes, South Chapel, 2600 Lincoln Way. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the service time Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Chris Heilig will be officiating.

She was born June 25, 1908, in Albert Lea, Minn., to Abraham and Jessie M. Hugunin Sanders. She married Arthur R. Johnson on March 1, 1930, in Davenport. He preceded her in death.

She lived in Low Moor and Camanche.

She graduated from Clinton High School in 1926.

She taught in Clinton County rural schools. She and her husband farmed for more than 60 years.

She was an active member of Low Moor United Methodist Church and was chairwoman of the church circle. She was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Ladies Moose Auxiliary, Four Leaf Clover Club and several other clubs.

Survivors include one son, Wayne (Judy) Johnson of California; one daughter-in-law, Vickie Johnson-Evers; nine grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one grandchild and three brothers.

Death date: Dec. 30, 2005
