Vern Gilbert, 91, of Daly City, died Dec. 24.
There was a Mass and memorial service Thursday at St. Mary’s Cathedral, San Francisco. Interment was private at the Golden Gate National Cemetery. Duggan’s Cerra Mortuary, Daly City, was in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 28, 1914, in Weiser, Idaho. The family later moved to Boise, Idaho. He married Louise.
He served in the military for 31 years throughout the U.S., Europe, Asia and Canada. After retiring, he taught math at the St. Ignatius College Preparatory, San Francisco, for 15 years.
He graduated from West Point in 1939.
He later moved to the Sequoias, a retirement home.
Survivors include five sons; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one daughter-in-law, Sharon Grossman Gilbert of Daly City.
