CLINTON — Thomas D. McLaughlin, 83, of Clinton, died Wednesday at Mercy Medical Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Chancy Lutheran Church with the Rev. Fred Schauer officiating. Burial will be in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by Clinton AMVETS Post 28. Visitation will be today from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. until the service time Saturday at the church.

Pallbearers will be Chuck Rutledge, Gene Steensen, Doug Stouffer, Dan McLaughlin, Tim Mullen, Larry Witt, Sr., Jerry Ramig and the Iowa State Bowling Association Hall of Fame and board of directors.

He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Clinton to George and Catherine Loehndorf McLaughlin. He married Hilda Emma Jurgensen on Dec. 1, 1942, in Victoria, Texas. She died in 2001.

He was a 1940 graduate of Clinton High School.

He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

He was an electrician with Electric Service of Clinton for 28 years. He purchased the Plaza Bowl of Clinton with Chuck Rutlege in 1973 and was there until his retirement in 1987.

He was a 55-year member of IBEW Local 145, Rock Island, Ill. He was a member of Chancy Lutheran Church, a lifetime member of Clinton Moose 363, Clinton AMVETS Post 28 and Clinton Fraternal Order of Eagles 405. He served as secretary of the Clinton Bowling Association earning the honor of Secretary Emeritus. He was a member of the Clinton Bowling Hall of Fame, a Past-President of the Iowa State Bowling Association and was inducted into the Iowa State Bowling Hall of Fame in 1974.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Mary (William) Ruddy of Clinton, Mrs. Pam (John) Kjergaard of Clinton and Mrs. Sally (Mike) Kremer of Clinton; two sons, Thomas (Judy) McLaughlin of Webster City and Timothy (Connie) McLaughlin of Clinton; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris Kjergaard of Clinton; one brother, David (Roberta) McLauhglin of Princeton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and one grandchild.
