BETTENDORF — Dean A. Ruggeberg, 84, of Bettendorf, died Thursday at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport.

There will be a celebration of his life at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services, Maquoketa, with the Rev. Ruth Ann Scott officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the service time Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Lost Nation Cemetery where full military rites will be accorded by Maquoketa American Legion Post 75, Maquoketa VFW Post 3633 O’Connor-Regenwether and Andrew AMVETS Post 62.

He was born Jan. 22, 1922, in Clinton County to Elmer and Laura E. Busch Ruggeberg. He married Laura M. Brinkman on Nov. 22, 1956, in Rock Island, Ill.

He graduated from Elwood High School.

He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army.

He farmed in Clinton County east of Lost Nation for several years. He then worked with J.I. Case, Bettendorf, on the assembly line for 16 years before retiring in 1979.

He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 9128, Bettendorf.

Survivors include his wife; children, Barbara Horstmann (Harold Powell) of Bettendorf, Susan Watts (Bruce Oikle) of Grand Mound, Allen (Lonnie) Creighton of Eminence, Mo., and Mrs. Marie (Edward “Butch”) Franzen of DeWitt; one sister, Fern Clarke of Maquoketa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A Dean A. Ruggeberg Memorial Fund has been established.
