MAQUOKETA — Richard A. Miller, 81, of Maquoketa, died Monday at his home.

There will be a celebration of his life at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Carson and Son Funeral and Cremation Services in Maquoketa with the Rev. Mel Valdez, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Maquoketa, officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Maquoketa, where a military flag presentation will be conducted.

He was born July 18, 1924, in Maquoketa to Albert and Mary Stephenson Miller. He was raised by his uncle and aunt, Frank and Clara Miller Sodeman. He married Betty Stickley on June 12, 1949, in Maquoketa.

He was a 1943 graduate of Maquoketa High School. He then graduated from Cedar Rapids Barber School.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army serving as a military policeman in Italy.

He was a barber. He began his career in Bellevue with Orville Jackson. The majority of his career was spent working in Maquoketa with Shifty Davis. He later bought the business and named it Miller’s Clip Joint. He retired in 1986.

He was a 50-year member of Maquoketa American Legion Post 75 and the Knights of Pythias Lodge, Maquoketa. He also was a member of First United Methodist Church, Maquoketa.

Survivors include his wife; children, Rich (Rhonda) Miller of Delmar and Jim (Ingrid) Miller of Tiffin; two grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
