Marvel was the first-born child of Carl and Grace (Reher) Goers. She was born at home in Low Moor, Iowa on November 20, 1921.

She is survived by her son, William C. (Nancy) Iliff of Lexington, KY and her daughter Joyce (William) Rowe of Camanche, IA. Grandchildren, Roxann (John) Dixon of Camanche, Iowa; William C. (Laura) Rowe of Stevens Point, Wisconsin; Lisa Iliff of Virginia, and John (Kerry) Iliff of St. Petersburg, Florida. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Drury, Ashtyn and Alexandra Dixon, Madeline and Quinn Rowe, Sammy and Grady Iliff, and Sarah and Caroline Allen; and her sister Evelyn Marr of Camanche. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles in 1978, her mother Grace and her father Carl Goers.

She attended elementary school in Shafton, Iowa. Graduated from Clinton High School and graduated from Beauty School in Davenport.

She was a member of St. Mark‚s United Methodist Church, Camanche, the VFW Auxiliary and the P.T.A.

Marvel was the sole caregiver and parent to her children during WWII while her husband Charles served in the Pacific. After Chuck returned from the war he built the Fish Market. He and Marvel delivered smoked and fresh fish by panel truck to all of the small surrounding groceries stores in Clinton County. Marvel was also a beautician for many years.

She will be remembered for her love of fishing, the sun, wonderful times at “the cabin,” making crafts, cooking, her skills as a hairdresser, and most of all as a loving mother and grandmother. Think of her when you see a sunset over the Mississippi River.

We also honor our ancestors from a small village of Labbla, Pomerania, Germany near the Baltic Sea. William and Bertha Goers who left their home land in 1892.

Marvel’s family is hosting a luncheon at St. Mark‚s United Methodist Church in Camanche following the service.
