Madeline M. Hughes

MAQUOKETA — Madeline M. Hughes, 96, of Maquoketa and formerly of Delmar, died Monday at Clover Ridge, Maquoketa.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Maquoketa. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Delmar. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lahey Funeral Home, Maquoketa, where a vigil service will be held at 4:30 p.m.

She was born April 24, 1909, in Hurstville to Albert and Katherine Keiffer LaFayette. She married Leo E. Hughes on Sept. 3, 1929, in Welton. He died in 1988.

She was a homemaker.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Guild, Maquoketa.

Survivors include five sons, Donald Hughes of Bryant, Paul (Denyse) Hughes of Maquoketa, Robert (Barbara) Hughes of Delmar, Thomas (Mary) Hughes of Geneseo, Ill., and Dennis (Debra) Hughes of Park View; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esther Ales of Maquoketa.
