Margaret Meyer 01/27/1999 DeWITT, Iowa -- Services for Margaret "Ruth" Meyer, of DeWitt, will be 2 p.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Visitation is 4-6 p.m. Thursday at the church and noon to 2 p.m. Friday at the church. Mrs. Meyer died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Westwing Place, DeWitt. Nelson Funeral Home, DeWitt, is in charge of arrangements. She was employed at the Clinton Advertiser and Clinton Herald as the DeWitt correspondent and supervisor of the carriers. She also worked in the circulation department. She retired in 1982 after 50 years of service. Margaret O'Connor was born April 9, 1909, in DeWitt, to Denis and Gertrude (Howe) O'Connor. She married A.E. Meyer on Aug. 2, 1939, in DeWitt. He died in 1969. She graduated from DeWitt High School and had attended Grinnell College. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, where she had served as youth director, clerk and memorial chairman. She was a 50-year member of Golden Star Chapter Order of Eastern Star and a member of DeWitt Republican Women and Central Historical Society, DeWitt. Memorials may be made to First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. Survivors include a stepdaughter, Helen Kay Latousche, Chadwick, Ill.; a niece, Kathleen Brockmeier, Richfield, Minn.; nephews and spouses, Michael O'Connor, Woodbury, Minn., Dan and Rebecca O'Connor, Richfield, and Brian O'Connor, DeWitt; grandnephews, Jeffrey O'Connor, Richfield, and James O'Connor, Richfield; a sister-in-law, Lois O'Connor, DeWitt; and a step-grandson, David Latousche, Rockford, Ill. She was preceded in death by a brother, Laurence O'Connor, who died in 1992.
