H.T. Lewis 11/24/1998 DeWITT, Iowa -- H.T. "Tom" Lewis, of DeWitt, died Monday, Nov. 23, 1998, at Kahl Home in Davenport. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. Burial will be Friday at National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, with a Scripture service at 8 p.m. Mr. Lewis was an attorney and partner with the firm Stafne, Lewis and Jasper in Bettendorf. He retired from his law practice in 1983. Tom also served as the assistant Scott County attorney as well as the city attorney for Bettendorf. He was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Columbus, Miss, to Charles and Ollie (Radel) Lewis. He grew up in Nauvoo, Ill. Tom graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1937. He received a juris doctor degree from the University of Iowa College of Law in 1948. He married Vera Severin on Aug. 28, 1942, in Davenport. Tom was a World War II Army veteran. He also served in the Korean War. He retired from the Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel in 1975. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt. He also was a member of Springbrook Country Club, DeWitt; Knights of Columbus; Lions Club; and Iowa Bar Association. A memorial fund has been established. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Maryann Stubitsch, Chicago, Barbara Hudetz, Norwalk, Conn., and Kathleen (Mrs. Mike) Rollings, DeWitt; grandchildren, Julie Hanson, Jennifer Smyth, Sara Stubitsch, Kristin Stubitsch, Joel Rollings and Joy Rollings. He was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Charles Lewis.
