Obituary: The Clinton Herald Wednesday September 30, 1931 p. 5 Justus Lund, 4, one of the oldest citizens of the city and country one onetime prominent merchant, died Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in his home, 2804 North Second street. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the home. The Rev. Frederick G. Williams, rector of Grace church will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery. Mr. Lund was born July 16, 1837 in Eckenfoerde, Schleswig Holstein, Germany. He came to America in 1855, and settled in Lyons, where he has since lived with the exception of two years in Nebraska. In 1859 he entered the employ of Rice brothers, conducting their branch general store in Fulton, Ill. He went to Germany in 1862, to attend the fiftieth anniversary of his father as instructor in the public schools in his native city. Returning to Lyons in 1863 he entered partnership with George Earl and J.M. Rice, and in 1865 purchased Mr. Rice's interest. The firm of Earl & Lund continued successfully until 1873, when the business was sold to Lund brothers. In 1880, Justus Lund entered the clothing business with Jacob Denker, retiring from active business soon after the death of Mr. Denker. Mr. Lund is the last of his family, two sisters and three brothers preceded him in death. April 15, 1866 he was married to Miss Julia Hahn in the home of her brother, W.H. Hahn in Lowden. April 15 of this year they celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary. Mr. Lund attained his ninety-fourth birthday July 16. He was the last charter member of the German Dramatic association. He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Emma Freund and Miss Bertha Lund of this city, three grandchildren, Herbert E. Freund of Chicago, Ill., Carl J. Freund of Cedar Rapids and Miss Constance Freund of this city; four great-grandchildren, Betty and Nancy Freund of Chicago and Juliane Eliese and Thomas Freund of Cedar Rapids.
