The Clinton Herald Tuesday January 27, 1920 p. 8 Death claimed a well known Clinton county resident Monday, when Peter Joens, 200 Clinton street, passed away at 6:15 o'clock. He had been troubled for years with asthma but was not taken seriously ill until last Wednesday. Peter Joens was 71 years of age born February 23, 1848 in Schleswig-Holstein. In 1867 he came to Lyons and here he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Peters in 1871. To them eleven children were born, four of whom are deceased. His wife passed away January 9, 1911. December 1, 1915 he was united in marriage with Mrs. Julianna Kohlmorgan. Since then he had made his residence in Lyons. Of his immediate relatives he is survived by his wife, four sons, John, Peter, Claus and Hans Joens; three daughters, Mrs. Anna Gradert of Bryant, Mrs. Emma Eggers and Mrs. Augusta Anderson of west of Lyons; also 20 grandchildren, three stepgrandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Peter Bott of Andover. The funeral will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home. Rev. Hugo Grimm will officiate. Burial will be in the Dierks cemetery.

The Clinton Advertiser Tuesday January 27, 1920 p. 6 Last evening Mr. Peter Jones Sr., passed away at his home, 200 Clinton street. Mr. Jones had been troubled for the past years with asthma and was taken seriously ill last Wednesday, death coming very unexpectedly. The deceased was born Feb. 22, 1848, in Schleswig-Holstein Germany and died at the age of 71 years, 11 months and 4 days. He came to Lyons in the year 1867, where he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Peters in 1871. Eleven children were born to this union, four preceeding the father's death. His wife passed away January 9, 1911 and he was again united in marriage December 1, 1915 to Mrs. Julianna Kohlmorgen. He was well known in this vicinity and has many friends to mourn his death. His survivors are: His wife, four sons, John, Claus, Hans, all living west of Lyons, Peter Jr., living in Lyons. Three daughters, Anna Gradert, Bryant, Mrs. Augustia Andersen and Mrs. Emma Eggers, west of Lyons, one sister, Mrs. Peter Bott of Andover; twenty grandchildren, and three stepchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the late residence, Rev. Hugo Grimm officiation. Burial will be made in the Dierk cemetery.
