The Clinton Herald James E. McEleney Sr., 69, of Sun City West, Ariz., and formerly of Clinton died Sunday in Surprise Ariz. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 19002 N. 128th Ave., Sun City West. Inurnment will be at Camino Del Sol Funeral Chapel Columbarium of Eternal Peace in Sun City West. He was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Clinton to Leo and Elsie Bonnemann McEleney. In 1958, he married Sharon Streit in Clinton. He graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1950 and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1954. After college, he served inthe U.S. Air Force as a pilot from 1954 to 1957. He was the owner of Heritage Motors in Clinton for many years. He moved to Arizona in 1988. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church and the church's Men's club. He was a past member of the Clinton Kiwanis, a fourth-degree Knights of Columbus and had belonged to various General Motors Dealer Councils. Surivors include his wife, Mary "Sharon" of Sun City West; two daughters, Maureen P. Lees of Strongville, Ohio, and Kelly T. McEleney of Avondale, Ariz.; three sons, Kevin P. McEleney of Ishpeming, Mich., Darin J. McEleney of N. Olmsted, Ohio, and James E. McEleney Jr. of Phoenix, Ariz.; 21 grandchildren; and two brothers, Warren J. McEleney of Fulton, Ill., and Donald A. McEleney of Clinton. He was preceded in death by his parents and a son. Death date: Sept. 23, 2001.
