Richard Owen “Dick” Colehour

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill. — Richard Owen “Dick” Colehour, 79, of Mount Carroll, died Saturday at Freeport (Ill.) Health Network Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church, Mount Carroll, with the Rev. Robert Ziebarth officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll, with full military rites. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll.

He was born Jan. 13, 1926, in Genoa, Ill., to Clarence and Francis Hoover Colehour. He married Evelyn Haines on June 5, 1955, at the East Jordan Church near Polo, Ill.

He attended Mount Carroll schools and graduated from East Rockford (Ill.) Senior High School in 1944. He graduated from the Chicago School of Business in 1948.

He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific aboard the LST 586 during World War II.

He worked in the family grain elevator business, Colehour Elevator, Mount Carroll, since 1948. He also farmed.

He was a member of First Baptist Church, Mount Carroll American Legion, Savanna (Ill.) Moose Lodge, Sons of the American Revolution, Mount Carroll Cyrus Masonic Lodge 118 and Tebala Shrines, Freeport.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Cathleen F. (Hugh O’Neill) Colehour of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and Mrs. Susan (Michael) Johnson of Fort Collins, Colo.; one son, Charles R. (Tressie) Colehour of Sharpsburg, Ga.; one sister-in-law, Wylma Colehour of Mount Carroll; and one grandchild.

Memorials may be made in his name to First Baptist Church.
