The Clinton Herald Wednesday September 9, 1931 p. 8 Funeral services for Ferdinand Struve, 69, who died here about 5 p.m., Tuesday, will be held from the Methodist church at this place, Friday, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. F.W. Court of Davenport will officiate. Mr. Struve was a pioneer businessman, having built the first mill in Miles. He has been retired many years. His widow and one daughter, Isabel, at home, survive. Mr. Struve was born in Jackson county near here and has lived in Miles 36 years.

Ferdinand Struve, son of Ernest Henry and Emilie Catherine Struve, was born on a farm north of Miles, September 11th, 1862, the fourth of seven children who survive him. Paul Struve and Will Struve of Almont, Iowa, John Struve of Clinton, Ia., Mrs. John Frahm of Miles, Ia., Ed Struve of Almont, Ia., and Mrs. Joe Meyers of Clinton, Ia.; one uncle, Henry Schnoor at Puyallup, Washington. He was united in marriage to Miss Caroline A. Scheder on April, 29th, 1891 at Chicago, Ill. To this happy union two children were born, Isabelle at home and Mrs. C.G. Cook deceased. He and his wife lived on a farm near Almont until December 5th, 1895 when they moved to Miles. He erected the Miles mill which he operated while health permitted retiring from active labor in 1906. He died at his home in this city on September 8th, 1931 at the age of 68 years eleven months and 28 days. He leaved to mourn his loss his wife and one daughter, five grand children, four brothers, two sisters, one uncle, and many nephews nieces and cousins. He was baptized with a family group the third day of November in 1912 at the Almont Church. He was an Odd Fellow and a Mason and also belonged to the Consistory at Clinton and the shrine at Davenport. During his active life he was a good businiess man. He had charge of the mill and coal business here and by his fair and square dealings built up a good business and only sold on account of poor health. As a friend and advisor he could not be excelled as a man of real worth and one that could be termed unusually dependable. Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon from the M.E. Church with Rev. F.W. Court of Davenport officiating. Rev. Court is very well known here on a number of occasions and his sermon was very good. Music was furnished by Mrs. Wm. Householder and S.W. Watts, which Mrs. Fred Menneke at the piano, the selections were "Lead Kindly Light," and "Some Day We'll Understand." The pall bearers were C.J. Bryant, Frank Friedrichsen, Ray Corlis, A.C. Kellogg, M. Hyseil and L. Crawford with three Odd Fellows and three Masons as honorary bearers, John Henningsen, Hans Friedrichsen and L.H. Schroeder and L.W. Wells, H.C. Krabbenhoft and A.J. Cook. The floral offerings were very beautiful. Interment was made in the Miles cemetery where a large group of friends gathered to witness the last ceremonies held for their departed friend.
