Robert I. Mills
SAVANNA, Ill. — Robert I. Mills, 86, of Savanna, died Wednesday at his home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church, Hanover, Ill. The Rev. Kendrick Matthews will be officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover.
He was born Dec. 14, 1918, to Hugh A. and Lois Steele Mills in Hanover. He married Charlotte M. McKinley on Aug. 26, 1940.
He graduated from Hanover High School in 1936.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. He was an elder in the church for more than 60 years.
He farmed in rural Hanover from 1939 until his retirement in 1973. He also worked as a professional photographer from 1950 to 1956. From 1973 to 1990, he worked as an independent trucker with the Dubuque Packing Co., transporting meat.
Survivors include his wife; seven sons, Carlton (Joan) Mills of Champaign, Ill., J. Richard (Cheryl) Mills of Dixon, Ill., Lt. Col. Peter Mills of McAlester, Okla., James (Sharon) Mills of Savanna, Doug (Cathy) Mills of Alachua, Fla., Andrew Mills of Thomson, Ill., and Phillip (Lisa) Mills of Savanna; three daughters, Mrs. Susan (Jackson) Greathouse of Reedy, WVa., Jane Rieman of Decatur, Ill., and Mrs. Debbie (Darrold) Kennedy of Savanna; 25 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
