Verla Mae Sturtevant

SAVANNA, Ill. — Verla Mae Sturtevant, 81, of Savanna, died Tuesday at Provena St. Joseph Center, Freeport, Ill.

There will be a private memorial service at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna. Inurnment will be in the Savanna Township Cemetery.

She was born May 18, 1924, in Stockton, Ill., to Frank and Bertha Hintz Breed. She married Jack Paul Sturtevant in Dubuque on Jan. 26, 1946. He died in 1998.

She attended Stockton schools and graduated from Stockton High School in 1941.

In her early years, she worked with the Savanna Army Depot. She then worked with Eaton Corp., Savanna, as a quality control inspector for 12 years.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Savanna, and the Savanna Women of the Moose.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Vicki (Robert) Marquardt of Algoma, Wis., and Mrs. Jackie (Jon) Jones of East Moline, Ill.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Breed of Stockton; and two sisters in-law; Martha Canavan of Savanna and Hazel Breason of Chicago.
