Ed Casad 02/07/2005 DEWITT, Iowa -- Mr. Ed Casad, DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday evening, Feb. 4, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, DeWitt, following a brief illness. Samuel Edward Casad, a long time farmer in the Grand Mound and Calamus area was born June 16, 1918, in Nevada, Iowa. He was the son of Roscoe and Bessie (Peterson) Casad. He married Elsie Ella Luckow on Oct. 7, 1944, and they danced their way through 60 years of marriage. A World War II veteran, he served in Europe as a combat engineer. Ed loved farming and hard work but was forced into early retirement following a debilitating stroke in 1968. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound for over 60 years, and was a proud member of the Calamus American Legion Post. Ed was a talented horseshoe player and loved to play checkers with his kids and grandkids. Surviving are his loving wife, Elsie; a daughter, Sue Meier and her husband, Kenneth, DeWitt; a son, Allen Casad and his wife, Marilyn Stoesser-Casad, Standish, Maine; five grandchildren, Joseph Meier, Megan Meier, Mark Stoesser-Casad, Sara Stoesser-Casad and Erik Stoesser-Casad; two sisters, Virginia Rock, Wheatland, Iowa, and Pat Willer, DeWitt; a brother, Glen Casad and his wife, Delora, Wheatland; Preceding Ed in death were his parents and two sisters, Shirley Lichtenstein and Naomi Block. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2005. Service of Christian Burial 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2005 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grand Mound. The Rev. Dennis Arndt officiating. Interment at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Military rites will be conducted at the Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Pallbearers will be Joe Meier, Erik Stoesser-Casad, Megan Meier, Ed Lichtenstein, Max Casad and Alvin Block.
