DEWITT — Roy Francis Gereau, 84, of DeWitt, died Monday Oct. 24, 2005, at his home.

Visitation will be at the Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt. The Rev. Brian “Pete” Hagglund and Deacon Bill Biver will be presiding. Interment will be in the Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Military rites will be conducted by Eugene McManus American Legion Post 238, DeWitt.

Pallbearers will be Sebastian Gereau, James Broadfoot, Tim Batey, Tom Biver, Bob Biver, Ted Batey, John Biver and Gary Batey.

He was born Jan. 18, 1921, in San Benito, Texas, to Frank and Anna Marie Kisting Gereau. He married Clarine Batey on Jan. 25, 1946, in Bethesda, Md.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He graduated from St. Ambrose University and University of Iowa.

He was an educator and administrator for 37 years before retiring from Central DeWitt schools after 21 years of service.

He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, DeWitt, the Masons and Retired School Personnel of Clinton County. He also served as a board of directors member for New Directions and United Manor.

Survivors include his wife; four children, Roy E. (Charlotte) Gereau of St. Louis, Mrs. Ellen C. (David) Mayberry of DeWitt, Harry C. (Lucia) Gereau of Aurora, Ill., and Mrs. Amy C. (Kevin) Broadfoot of Charlotte; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Sister Mary Victoria Gereau, Betty Kress and Virginia Biver, all of Dubuque.

The family suggests that memorial donations be made to Genesis Hospice.
