GOOSE LAKE — John M. Mullin, 87, of Goose Lake, died Monday Oct. 24, 2005, at the Jackson County Public Hospital, Maquoketa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Church of The Visitation, Camanche, with Father Okumu officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Camanche Chapel of the Snell-Zornig Funeral Home and Crematory.

Pallbearers will be Jim and Jason Mullin, Roger Petersen, Roderick Taylor, Mark Lee, Chris Thompson, Terry St. Ores and Dave Daley.

He was born Sept. 8, 1918, in Blockton to Dennis Edward and Sarah Catherine Reagan Mullin. He married Gloria S. Seeman on Sept. 1, 1947, in Bryant.

He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II and served in the Pacific Theatre. Later during the war, he was selected for flight training. Upon successful completion, he was commissioned as a Naval officer and designated a Naval aviator.

He founded Wildlife Harvest Publications Inc. He was the editor and publisher of the monthly magazine, “Wildlife Harvest.” He also published two books, “Game Bird Propagation” and the “Wildlife Harvest Game Cookbook.” He and his family established the Arrowhead Hunting and Conservation Club in 1952. This was a private-enterprise hunting preserve in the state of Iowa.

He was an active member and past president of the North American Gamebird Association. For more than 40 years, he served as the information office and publications editor with the Association of North America’s Game Farms and Hunting Resorts. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award from that organization. He also was an active member of the Outdoor Writer’s Association of America, the Iowa Outdoor Communicator’s Association and past president of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoors Writers. He was chosen by his peers to receive that association’s highest honor, the Excellence In Craft Award. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, Davenport, and the Church of the Visitation, Camanche. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, Izaak Walton League of America and Clinton Moose Lodge 363.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Peggy Mullin Boehmer of Charlotte; six sons, Dale (Linn) Mullin of Virginia Beach, Va., Daniel Mullin of Goose Lake, Kevin (Donna) Mullin of Kent, Wash., Patrick (Diane) Mullin of Charlotte, Louis (Mary) Mullin of Lena, Ill., and James (Anne) Mullin of Goose Lake; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margaret Mullin of Dubuque and Mrs. Kaye (William) Daley of Davenport.

He was preceded in death by one brother and two grandchildren.
