M. H. McCarthy of Dubuque, father of Mrs. Frank Ward of this city, passed away at the Presbyterian hospital, Chicago, Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock from an infection following a minor operation.
Mr. McCarthy was born in La Salle, Ill., August 13, 1853. For many years he was secretary and general of the Standard Lumber company, vice president and treasurer of the Central Lumber & Coal company of Dubuque, and actively identified for many years with other large logging and lumber manufacturing enterprises.
Funeral services will be held at St. Patrick's cathedral, Dubuque, Thursday morning.
Left to mourn his death are his wife, four daughters and four sons, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Ward and family left today for Dubuque.

Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ward of this city who have been in Dubuque for the past few days to attend the funeral of Mrs. Ward's father, M. H. McCarthy of that city, remained in the city today where they are attending the funeral of the late Mr. McCarthy's brother, Dennis McCarthy, who is well know in this city.
Dennis McCarthy passed away the Thursday afternoon following the funeral services of his brother. He was ill only a few days with pneumonia. He had been in the insurance and real estate field for a number of years. Mr. McCarthy was married to Miss Ida Grant, a noted singer, who was a frequent visitor at the home of Mrs. T. W. Hall, in this city.
