Hanna Frances Hiner, daughter of Young I. and Malinda J. Hiner was born in Rockingham county, Va., March 16, 1846. She was one of five children, three daughters and two sons. In 1854, the family drove across country to Iowa settling in Brookfield township in Clinton county, after many hardships encountered en route.
She grew to womanhood on the farm there and Feb. 24, 1875 was untied in marriage to David M. Hicks. They established their home near Elwood, Clinton county and remained there until they removed to Maquoketa in April 1915.
Mrs. Hicks united with the church at an early age, and for many years was a member of the M. E. church at Elwood, later becoming a member of the M. E. church at Maquoketa. A faithful, loving wife is taken from earthly circles but loving hearts will hold her in sacred memory.
Mrs. Hicks is survived by two brothers, E. S. Hiner of Maquoketa and J. A. Hiner of Mount Vernon, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Patterson of Fillette's Grove, Ia., and Mrs. Hattie Boaden of Chamberlain, S. Dak.
The funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home on Prospect street, Rev. E. A. Lang of the M. E. church officiating. The body was laid to rest in the mausoleum in Mt. Hope cemetery.
