Mary Louise Zuill O'Hara, 82, of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Grand Mound, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center-Westwing Place, DeWitt, Iowa. The family will receive visitors 1-3 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Weerts Funeral Home, Davenport. Private burial will be in Oakdale Memorial Gardens, Davenport. Memorials may be made to the Scott County Humane Society or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. O'Hara was born April 27, 1922, in Davenport, to William E. and Lillian (Hubers) Zuill. She married Francis Patrick O'Hara on June 6, 1966, in Rock Island, Illinois. He died in 1986. She was a factory worker for Sears Manufacturing in Davenport and also worked at the Rock Island Arsenal. Mary had a great love for animals and sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs. She made countless friends at Westwing Place where she had been a resident since October 1996.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Catherine Benkert, of Madison, Wisconsin; a brother-in-law, Jim O'Hara, of California; her adopted family, Rick, Peg, Megan, Will and Whitney Mineck, of Grand Mound, Iowa; and a special friend, Gary Gonner, of DeWitt. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and two brothers. She will be missed dearly by the many people whose lives were touched by her generous heart and sense of humor.
