Dorothy Mae Kauffman, 91, of DeWitt, Iowa, died Thursday, March 31, 2005, at DeWitt Community Hospital.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2005, at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Keith Speaks and the Rev. Garland Gotoski will officiate.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt. Pallbearers will be Tim Kauffman, Brian Kauffman, Gail Duenckel, Chris Haring, Mark Kauffman, Dawn Dunnegan, Curt Duenckel, Corey Duenckel, Justin Kauffman and John Dunnegan.
Visitation will be 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday, April 3, 2005, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt.
She was born July 13, 1913, in Tigerton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Edwin and Elizabeth (Edeler) Heger. Dorothy was baptized by the Rev. Ziebrandt on August 24, 1913, in St. John's Lutheran Church at Tigerton, Wisconsin. She was also confirmed in St. John's Lutheran Church in Tigerton on May 20, 1928, by the Rev. Ziebrandt. In 1932, Dorothy graduated from Marathon County Normal School of Wausau, Wisconsin.
She married Harold Kauffman on February 14, 1936, in Tigerton. Harold died December 21, 1980. They lived in Bowler, Wisconsin, for two years. During that time she taught school in Bowler and in Tigerton. Harold and Dorothy moved to DeWitt in April 1938.
The Kauffmans became members of Grace Lutheran Church in May 1938. Dorothy was active in many church activities, as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, the choir, a member of Grace Lutheran Women, the Anna Circle and a member of the Adult Bible Study class. She also volunteered at the Davenport Lutheran Home.
Dorothy was very active in various community affairs, belonging to the Hospital Auxiliary and the Retired Senior Volunteer People. She enjoyed writing poetry, short stories, painting and artwork.
Surviving her include her son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Evelyn Kauffman, Hayward, Wisconsin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Virginia and Charles Duenckel, Jefferson City, Missouri, and Beth and Kim Haring, DeWitt; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, four brothers and four sisters.
