Georgia May Traver, 95, of Clinton, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at the Sarah Harding Home in Clinton.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, February 4, 2005, at First United Methodist Church. Visitation will be 3-8 p.m. today at the Clinton Chapel of Snell-Zornig-Dennis A. Lemke Funeral Home, where a Rebecca Lodge service will be conducted. Pallbearers will be Gerald Nichols and Harold Hinrichs. Burial will be in the Elvira Cemetery in Elvira, Iowa.
She was born Monday, February 22, 1909, in Albany, Ill., the daughter of Floss and Effie (Jordan) Yopst. She was a Clinton High School graduate. She married Charles Eugene "Gene" Traver on December 31, 1934, in Clinton, Iowa. He died August 7, 1993.
Georgia farmed in Clinton County with her husband for several years until they retired from farming in 1962. From 1963 to 1987 she and her husband were employed in the insurance and real estate business. They had their own agency selling Farm Bureau Insurance.
She was a life member of First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Women's Circle of the church, Clinton Women's Club, Lincoln Township Homemaker's Club, and Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a Mayflower Descendant and was a member of the Rebecca Lodge. She received the Act of Chivalry from the Rebecca Lodge, which is the highest honor bestowed on their members. She was also a 75-year member of the Clinton Rebecca Lodge and she was the oldest member of the local lodge.
Survivors include her daughter, Janice and her husband Allan Van Horn, of Clinton; her granddaughter, Lora and her husband Timothy Klein, of Clinton; her grandsons, Mark and his wife Beth Petersen, of Davenport, and Scott and his wife Alexa Petersen, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her great-granddaughters, Courtney Klein and Brittney Klein, of Clinton, and Aubrey Petersen, of Cedar Rapids; her sisters, Venita Yopst, of Clinton, and Mardelle Glew, of Shelbyville, Ky.; and nieces, nephews and one cousin.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her daughter, Priscilla Petersen, in 1972, four sisters and three brothers.
Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church.
