Funeral services for Vera L. Lewis, 84, a resident of DeWitt, Iowa, formerly of Bettendorf, will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries All Faith Chapel, Davenport. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Rock Island Arsenal. Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Sunday at the Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, Davenport, where a Prayer Service will be offered at 5:30 p.m.
Mrs. Lewis died on Friday, Jan. 28, 2005, at the Amber Ridge Assisted Living Center, DeWitt, following a long battle with cancer.
Vera L. Severin was born March 24, 1920, in Lowden, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Hilda (Sonnemaker) Severin. She was a graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing, Davenport.
Vera was united in marriage to H. T. "Tom" Lewis on Aug. 28, 1942, at Bishop Henry P. Rohlman's residence in Davenport. He preceded her in death on Nov. 23, 1998.
Mrs. Lewis was an active member of the community, participating in the Republican Party, the Springbrook Country Club, DeWitt, and St. Joseph's Church, DeWitt. She was a 20 plus year member of the Friendship Bible Studies of DeWitt, and an avid bridge player. Above all, Vera was a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend.
Memorials may be made to the International Myeloma Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Maryann Stubitsch, Palatine, Ill.; Barbara Hudetz and Saul Anthony Perdomo, Prospect Heights, Ill.; Kathy and Mike Rollings, DeWitt; grandchildren include, Mike Hathaway, Julie Hudetz, Jennifer (Brendan) Smyth, Sara (Russell) Williams, Kristin Stubitsch, Joel Rollings, Joy Rollings; great-grandchildren include, Sacia, Holly, and Nicholas; a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Lola Severin, Camanche, Iowa; a niece and two nephews.
