Services for Elsie M. Bahnsen, 85, of rural DeWitt, Iowa, will be 10 a.m. Friday at Elvira Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. today at Lemke Funeral Home, South, 2600 Lincolnway in Clinton, Iowa. Burial will be in Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Mrs. Bahnsen died on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, at home.
She was born October 23, 1919, in Princeton, Iowa, the daughter of Warren C. and Mary V. (Suiter) Carter. She married Lorenz Bahnsen on December 1, 1937, in Elvira. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1993. Elsie was a member of the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church, where she was active in the church circle and in many of the women's groups. She was also very active in many farm and school organizations, including the Clinton County Cowbelles, of which she was a founding member.
Survivors include her daughters, Loretta (Craig) Davis, Plymouth, Mich., Lorraine (Karl) Seesser, Hudson, Wis., Nancy (Joe) Jones, Ankeny, Iowa, and Wilma Jean Bahnsen, of Hobe Sound, Fla.; sons, Larry (Karilyn) Bahnsen, of DeWitt, and Robert (JoEllen) Bahnsen, of Normal, Ill.; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Violet Manning-Bopes, of Clinton; and a brother, Albert Carter, of Baldwin, Iowa.
Her parents, four sisters, three brothers, and an infant son preceded her in death. Memorials may be made to Genesis Hospice or the Elvira Zion Lutheran Church.
