July 14, 1951 - July 1, 2022
Law Jones Funeral Home

Daniel “Danny” Castro lived with the concept of the Great Spirit, as Native Americans believe is invisible but everywhere, touching people, animals and plants. He served his country, loved mototcycling and shooting pool. At the age of 70, Danny passed away suddenly at home from natural causes. Condolences may be left for the family at lawjonesfuneralhome.com

Daniel was born July 14, 1951 in Savanna, the son of Marie “Lupe” and Raymond Castro. He is a 1969 graduate of the Savanna High School. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War, even getting a surprise visit from his brother, also serving as a “frogman.” After his service, Danny received his education in Ammunitions at the Savanna Ordinance Depot, then went on to Texarkana, Texas for much of his career. His career took him around the world shaping his beliefs. After spending much time with Native Americans, he chose to follow their teachings, “We will be known forever by the tracks we leave.” Danny was a lifelong member of the Savanna VFW. He loved his dogs, Sasha and Kayla.

Danny will be dearly missed by his mother, Marie “Lupe” Castro of Savanna; a brother, Ramon “Jay” (Georgean) Castro of Freeport; a sister, Roxanne (Phillip) Smith of Killeen, Texas; a sister-in-law, JoEllen Castro of Rockton, Illinois; and a special friend, Ann Zink. He is also survived by 4 children, Jesse Peterson of Arkansas, Katie Peterson Shuptrine of Arkansas, Lisa Castro Batts of Texas and Antonia Castro Legere of New Jersey and several grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond, and his brother, Francis Castro.

A visitation will be held 12 – 2 pm Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, with time of sharing at 2 pm. A military graveside service will follow at the Savanna Township Cemetery, given by the Savanna VFW. Friends and family will then gather at Manny’s for a celebration of Dan’s life.
