Obituary for JoAnne Rohwer
JoAnne M. Rohwer, 94, of Clinton, passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at The Alverno.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 11, 2022 at Zion Lutheran Church following a visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Burial will be at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Joshua Heppner, Matthew Heppner, Evan Rohwer, Matthew Mull, Ben Smith and Preston Smith will serve as pallbearers. JoAnne Margaret Bliesmer was born on May 13, 1927 in Clinton, Iowa to Harry and Pauline (Beamer) Bliesmer. She was a 1945 graduate of Clinton High School and graduated from Jane Lamb Nursing School in 1948. She married Richard Rohwer on November 14, 1948; he died October 15, 1998. She later married Warren Wiggins on April 15, 2000; he died April 19, 2001.

JoAnne’s career as a registered nurse spanned over 40 years. She worked in pediatrics at Jane Lamb Hospital, as a visiting nurse, in general practices for Dr. Leonard Nelken and for Dr. Robert German, and at Medical Associates primarily for Dr. Wylie Griffith and as a float nurse. She retired in 1996. She continued serving as the parish nurse for Zion Lutheran Church for ten more years.

JoAnne was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and later Zion Lutheran Church, singing in the choirs from age 14 to 90. Her love of music included playing the ukulele, membership in the Catfish Jazz Society, singing in The Continentals (a jazz band) and singing with the Clintones (a women’s vocal group). Her favorite hobby was flower gardening and creating silk flower arrangements. She also enjoyed knitting; fishing; bowling; attending jazz festivals; traveling; bird watching; reading; and playing bridge, participating in Clinton city bridge-o-ramas. She was a past officer of the Jane Lamb Alumni Association and Tri S and a member of the AMVETS. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye football fan.

JoAnne is survived by her daughter: Margaret “Margi” (Joe) Heppner of Marshall, Michigan, her son: Karl (Eileen) Rohwer of Urbandale Iowa, 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands she was preceded in death by her sister: Amy Dierksen.
