Mary Jeanne Schawl Dodds, 90, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 24, 2022 in St. Augustine, Florida with her daughter at her side. Funeral services will be held 1:00PM Friday, April 8, 2022 at the Clinton Chapel Snell-Zornig Funeral Home & Crematory. Visitation will be held Friday from 11:00AM until the service hour. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Camanche. Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Online condolences may be expressed by visiting snellzornig.com.
Mary Jeanne Dunn was born January 21, 1932 in Clinton, Iowa, the daughter of Charles W. and Jessie (Cromer) Dunn. She was a graduate of Clinton High School and attended college for two years, receiving her teaching certificate. Mary Jeanne taught in a one room school house in Elvira, Iowa for a short time. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband Lyle Schawl for many years. Mary Jeanne married Lyle Schawl January 15, 1953 in Clinton, Iowa; he died December 8, 1984. She later married Wendell Dodds October 6, 1990 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa; he died June 29, 2007.
Mary Jeanne was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Camanche, First Baptist Church, DeWitt and was an active volunteer at the Victory Center.
Survivors include her children, David Schawl of Coralville, IA; Laurie (Rob) Hogan of St. Augustine, FL; Kathy (Dave) Kelly of Eldridge, IA; Ken (Joellyn) Schawl of Avondale, AZ and Steven (Dr. Alberto Santiago Cornier) Schawl-Cornier of Puerto Rico; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William H. Dunn and her sister-in-law, Lois Dunn Wulf, whom she loved as a sister.
