Raymond “Ray” James Bowman, 91, of Clinton, Iowa passed away peacefully at the Alverno on Sunday, January 2, 2022. Funeral Services occur at 12 pm on Wednesday, January 5, at Lemke Funeral Homes – South Chapel. A visitation occurs one hour prior from 11 am until the service hour at the Funeral Home. Burial occurs at Clinton Lawn Cemetery. Lemke Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.

Ray was born March 26, 1930 in Waukegan, Illinois, the son of Cornelius and Georgiana (Howell) Bowman. Ray was united in marriage to LaVonne Friske in 1951 in Savanna, Illinois.

Ray was baptized Lutheran and was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the Eagles Club.

Ray worked at Collis retiring after 25+ years. However, Ray would not stay retired very long, he was a man who always worked so, he came out of retirement to continue working, as an attendant, at Super Wash finally retiring there after 20 more years at the age of 89.

Ray enjoyed playing Bingo at the Eagles Club and now and then he would visit the area Casino’s. However, his true passion was getting out to go fishing – all year round. Those that knew Ray understood his other passion – eating, although you’d never know it from his slender physique. Above all, he loved his family very much, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be incredibly missed by family and friends.

Ray is survived by his children Gaylord Bowman and Gaylene (David) Hovey both of Clinton; grandchildren – Dawn Bentley, Ryan (Brianna) Hovey and Alex (Aarika Koppenhaver) Hovey; two great-granddaughters – Kennedy and Delaney; three sister in-laws – Maye Nelson, Audrey Backeberg and Joan Bowman; with several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife – LaVonne, four sisters, two brothers and one daughter in-law – Kathy.
