Elneta Kennedy, 93, of Welton, Iowa, passed away peacefully Saturday, December 4, 2021, in her home, with family by her side.

Elneta Mae Ihrig was born October 23, 1928, in Miles, Iowa, to Fritz and Mabel (Marburger) Ihrig. She graduated from Maquoketa High School in 1943. Elneta graduated from the University of Dubuque in 1947 and taught in rural schools in Jackson County. She was united in marriage to Melvin Andrew Kennedy on July 4, 1948, in Clinton. The couple resided in Welton, where they raised their family of six children. Melvin preceded her in death in 2003.

Elneta enjoyed gambling, quilting, gardening, spending time with her family, traveling, baking and canning.

Surviving is her daughter, JoAnn (Robert) Loose of DeWitt; 17 grandchildren; and God only knows how many great-grandchildren and great- greatgrandchildren; son-in-law, Dennis Walker; sister-in-law, Naomi “Nonie” Ihrig; nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her son, Alvin, and her daughters, Barbara Hill, Joy Rothbart, Alice Kennedy, and Molly Walker.

Visitation will be from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt. A Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 9, 2021, in the funeral home, Chaplain Scott Minteer of Heartland Hospice officiating. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be great-grandchildren.
