Loretta Maureen Pennock, 67, of DeWitt, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly, Monday, November 1, 2021, at home.

Loretta was born in DeWitt, Iowa, to Raymond and Catherine (Ryan) Garrity on April 14, 1954. She was a 1972 graduate of Central Community Schools in DeWitt. After obtaining a degree in education from St. Ambrose University, she began working at Caterpillar in Davenport. Loretta married Jeffrey Pennock on October 24, 1980, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. They raised their three children, Amanda, Elliott, and Jesse in DeWitt. She was a dedicated mother, always supporting her kids’ activities, teams, and dreams.

Loretta attended North DeWitt No. 2, the last one room school in the county, during her elementary years where she developed her love of teaching. She began teaching first grade at St. Joseph Catholic School in 1993. Teaching was her passion, spending countless hours at school, arriving early and staying late into the night. If you asked her, she never worked a day in her life.

Loretta had an incredible faith and was a devoted member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in DeWitt. She has been a courageous breast cancer survivor since 1997. Loretta exhibited herself in a giving, compassionate and selfless way. Her concern for others came first. She was always lending a helping hand and taking weekend lunches to the guys working at the shop.

Her children and grandchildren were the absolute lights of her life. She enjoyed shopping trips and traveling with her daughter, walking her dog, Lexus, reading, baking, and treating her grandchildren to trips, surprises, and treats!

Loretta is survived by her husband, Jeff; daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jason Langel of Davenport, son and daughter-in-law Elliott and Kristine, and their children, Katherine, Emma, and Elliott of DeWitt, a second son Jesse, fiancée Karolyn Kruse, of DeWitt; siblings, Angie (Jim) Broich of Chandler, Arizona, Leo (Ann) Garrity of DeWitt, and Raymond (Kathy Strodtman) Garrity of DeWitt; sisters-in-law, Jillane (Jerry) Renner of Elwood, Janelle (Donnie) Bousselot of Calamus, and Jodie (Todd) Reid of Oak Grove, Missouri; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Tom Garrity, sister-in-law, Carla Garrity, and niece, Nicole Garrity.

Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Friday, November 5, 2021, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 6, 2021, in the church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Masks are required for all in attendance.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph Catholic School.
